Cricket draws from very diverse communities at the grassroots level — but that diversity is not reflected in the same way at the professional level. Systemic barriers, subjectivity in assessment, opaque decision making and unclear lines of accountability have held the sport back from being truly inclusive.
Although a skills-based game, standardised or consistent assessing of players in a way that is both rigorous and transparent is not yet commonplace. Without this, decisions around player selection, deselection, and development risk being subjective, inconsistent, and potentially unfair.
There is a clear need for a system that gives players real visibility over their progress, with precise, meaningful feedback to help them improve and fulfil their potential - regardless of background, gender, school, or social connections.
At its heart, it is a tool designed to promote equity, diversity and inclusion in coaching, assessment, and decision-making. It standardises player assessment, ensures fairness, and creates a clear, transparent record of performance and development.
Crucially, EquiPlay provides cricket leaders the evidence they need for data-informed decisions - helping to build a sport where talent is recognised and nurtured on merit, and where every player can see a fair and open pathway to success.
