Leading the way is Professor Adeela, who brings together a distinguished academic background with specialist expertise in equity, diversity, and inclusion. Adeela’s vision was to create a tool that not only supports talent development but also shines a light on where inequalities might exist, giving organisations the insight to make cricket genuinely inclusive.
Joining her is Tom, the tech lead, whose innovative approach to app development turned that vision into a smart, intuitive platform designed for coaches, players, and decision-makers alike.
Dr Shaofu, a skilled data scientist ensures that the numbers behind EquiPlay tell the real stories — identifying trends, highlighting patterns, and supporting evidence-based decisions that keep fairness at the centre.
Adeela is Professor of Education with extensive experience in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in education, including through the medium of sport. She has led EU-funded projects such as ActiveGames4Change and Skills4Life, using sport to build social-emotional skills and engagement among marginalised young people. Adeela’s regional work on race equality in cricket as a former Commissioner for Race Equality, and her research into inclusive leadership and youth justice and as a Board member of a professional first-class English County cricket club, position her uniquely to have designed EquiPlay.
Tom is a full stack software developer with a focus on web and mobile technologies. He has contributed to the development of apps across multiple sectors Tom has written software for Channel 4, Vodafone and Cutover, having previously founded and exited a 7-figure app development agency. In his role as lead product engineer, Tom pairs clean code with modern user design principles to maximise EquiPlay’s effectiveness.
Shaofu is a data scientist with a background in educational research. He brings experience in developing and validating assessment instruments as well as agent-and-journey-based data modelling for assessment for learning. With experience in creating learning analytics applications, Shaofu has helped leverage data to support individual learning and growth, while also providing educators and organisational leaders with actionable insights. His expertise works to continually develop and enhance EquiPlay’s data modelling and insight discovery efforts.
