EquiPlay is a Bristol company. We make the assessment system that lets a cricket organisation hold every player to one standard and show its working.
The Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket reported in 2023 after the largest consultation the sport has run.
It is that what a coach sees stays with that coach. It is never written down in a form anyone else can compare, question or act on. So decisions about who progresses end up resting on memory, on scattered spreadsheets, and on whoever speaks with the most confidence in the room.
The ICEC found that talent identification in this country is shaped by who a player is as much as by what they can do. Not because anyone intends it, but because there is nothing in the system that would show it if it were happening.

A coach gets their own view back: who they have assessed, which skills they are covering, how their players track. If it were only a data collection exercise it would not get done.
One assessment helps a player. A season of them across a whole pathway tells an organisation things it could not previously find out at all, including where it holds no evidence.
Evidence-informed decisions only work if people trust how the evidence was made, and who benefits from it.

Financial sustainability matters, but it exists to support our purpose, not replace it. Any surplus generated is intended to improve quality and accessibility, support ongoing development, pay people fairly and strengthen long-term resilience.
EquiPlay is being developed with the intention that delivery will sit within a mission-locked structure, helping to protect purpose over time and limit extractive behaviour. We welcome scrutiny, feedback and challenge, because it helps us learn and improve.
EquiPlay holds coach assessments of players, many of them under eighteen. That carries obligations we take seriously.
Access is by role. A coach sees the players they work with. A player, and their parent or guardian, sees that player’s own record. The organisational view aggregates across the pathway.
The record is built from structured coaching assessments against a shared framework. It exists to support development and fair decisions, and the player can always see what has been recorded about them.

A team of educators, engineers and data scientists, brought together by a shared interest in fairness and transparency in cricket.
Adeela is Professor of Education with extensive experience in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in education, including through the medium of sport. She has led EU-funded projects such as ActiveGames4Change and Skills4Life, using sport to build social-emotional skills and engagement among marginalised young people. Her regional work on race equality in cricket as a former Commissioner for Race Equality, her research into inclusive leadership and youth justice, and her board membership of a professional first-class English county cricket club position her uniquely to have designed EquiPlay.
Tom is a full stack software developer with a focus on web and mobile technologies. He has written software for Channel 4, Vodafone and Cutover, having previously founded and exited a seven-figure app development agency. As lead product engineer, Tom pairs clean code with modern user design principles to maximise EquiPlay’s effectiveness.
Shaofu is a data scientist with a background in educational research. He brings experience in developing and validating assessment instruments, as well as agent and journey based data modelling for assessment for learning. With experience in creating learning analytics applications, Shaofu has helped leverage data to support individual learning and growth while giving educators and organisational leaders actionable insights.
Rory is a full-stack developer with over a decade of experience delivering tailored web solutions using Laravel, PHP and Vue.js. His background spans backend architecture, front-end integration and custom CMS development. He is responsible for ongoing feature development on EquiPlay, ensuring an optimal and secure experience for both online and offline users.

Together the team has created EquiPlay: not just an app, but a practical, intelligent solution for improving decision-making and championing inclusion in sport. It is in use across a full junior pathway, and a first season of assessment data has now been collected and is being analysed.
